New Deeter Low Volume Liquid Dispenser offers automated control and monitoring

Temperature Compensated

Automatic Calibration

The Deeter Group, market leaders in the design, development and manufacture of electronic sensors and control systems, announce the introduction of their new Low Volume Liquid Dispenser.  Intended for accurate, repeatable dosing of small volumes of chemicals, colours or flavourings, the Low Volume Liquid Dispenser may be used to control any liquid being dispensed in a laboratory or manufacturing process.

The new Low Volume Liquid Dispenser is designed to deliver a measured volume of liquid at the press of a button.  In normal use, the operator selects a volume, presses a button and the Dispenser delivers the required volume without further operator intervention.  The volume required is simple to set and the dose is retained in non-volatile memory for repeat operations. Volumes between 0.025 litres and 10 litres can be selected in increments of 0.001 litres.

The Dispenser will accurately measure volumes over a flow rate range of between 0.2 litres/minute and 2.5 litres/minute and will automatically compensate for the effects of varying flow-rates and changes in liquid temperature.  A calibration menu allows fine adjustments to the compensation.

The Low Volume Liquid Dispenser has two John Guest Speedfit® 8mm push-fit connectors for input and output of fluids.  Wetted surfaces are nylon, PTFE, Buna and acetyl, making the Low Volume Liquid Dispenser suitable for a wide range of fluids over a temperature range of +1 to +65ºC.  Operator controls consist of a three-button keypad and a liquid crystal display.  The display shows the selected volume and progress during dispensing.  A number of additional features are available through the keypad, including pause and restart during dispensing, cancelling dispensing, and manual ‘top-up’ control.

Peter Whiteaker, Managing Director of The Deeter Group comments; ”We have over twenty years of experience in designing fluid dispensers and our new Low Volume Liquid Dispenser will be ideal for single users in laboratories to automated systems for low volume dosing.  This new design features temperature controlled accuracy and the convenience of having software provided for control and monitoring from a PC.”

The Dispenser has a serial communication option to enable automated control and monitoring by an external computer using the software provided.  Communication is via USB ‘A to B’ cable and the Low Volume Liquid Dispenser is powered by a low-voltage supply, making it safe to use in damp environments or if liquid is spilt.  A 12VDC mains socket adapter is supplied with each Dispenser.

An audible ‘beep’ option is provided to indicate when dispensing has stopped and a further option will produce continuous ‘beeps’ if the flow rate is outside of  the limits for accurate volume measurement.  These audio options can be enabled or disabled through a display menu and are also saved to non-volatile memory and are restored to the operator’s preference after power-up.

Deeter Announce Free Wireless Sensor System Site Survey Service

The Deeter Group, market leaders in the design, development and manufacture of electronic sensors and control systems, announce the introduction of a free site survey service for customers considering the implementation of a Deeter or any other wireless sensor network operating in the 2.4GHz ISM band.

Deeter’s own wireless sensor networks may be used to remotely monitor temperature, pressure, flow, humidity,  liquid level, float or proximity switches or any  sensor connected to a 4-20mA control loop. Deeter wireless sensor networks are very versatile and can range from a simple single sensor measurement to complex multi sensor and multi-vendor systems with mixed sensor inputs and routers to extend wireless range and offer self-healing mesh networks.

With the availability of a specially designed Wireless Survey tool, a free survey carried out by the Deeter Group will allow potential customers to confirm that their installation environment is suitable for reliable wireless communication and determine the optimum locations for sensor transmitters, routers and receiver base stations.

Alan Marsh, Sales Manager at Deeter Group Ltd. Comments; ”We have had a great deal of interest in our wireless sensor networks from potential new customers and existing users of conventional cable connected sensor and process control systems. The most common reasons expressed for any reluctance to replace costly to install and damage-prone cabled systems with wireless are reliability and security. Our wireless systems have high security encrypted signals and robust wireless communication. To demonstrate this we now offer a free site survey. A fast and reliable way to demonstrate the suitability of our wireless sensor systems actually at our customer’s sites and to offer guidance on how to get the best results, whether from a single sensor or a complex self-healing mesh network.”

To get the best performance out of a wireless sensor system it is essential to ensure that all sensors (Deeter Senders) and receivers (Deeter Base stations or Routers) are optimally located and that other radio emitters, which may cause interference, are kept to a minimum. The most reliable way to ensure this is to use a Deeter Site Survey Tool, or have a free site survey carried out.

Depending on the scale of the intended installation following a few basic steps will make any installation proceed smoothly and ensure maximum results from the wireless network immediately.

Ensure a comprehensive site plan of the area or areas where the wireless sensor system is to be installed is available and identify major building obstacles such as walls, halls, elevators and floors that may block radio signals.

Determine the most likely locations for the receivers (Deeter Base Stations or Routers) in order that they may be connected inward to the proposed receiver or so that they can route the wireless signal onwards towards the main network connection. As a guide, receiver locations should avoid being close to metal or concrete walls and as close to the ceiling as possible.

For the test a Deeter Survey Tool Sender is placed where the Base Station will be situated.  The Deeter Survey Tool Base Station is then used to check the coverage and strength of the received signal, at each of the proposed locations of the sensor transmitters. In some installations repeaters or routers will be required; the survey tools will help determine the best location for them to be placed to ensure all signals are received back at the Base Station

Custom Sensors are “Standard” for Deeter

The Deeter Group, market leaders in the design, development and manufacture of electronic sensors and control systems, produces a very wide range of level sensor solutions for liquids; from simple water level switches and units designed as pure water level sensors to the very popular 20 series compact float switch and the advanced LVCS continuous liquid level sensor.

Between 70 to 80% of all sensors manufactured by Deeter in their UK factory are now custom designs. This is not as daunting as it might seem as with its long experience and a back catalogue of many hundreds of designs a new custom design can usually be put together from a combination of pre-designed parts and control circuits.

Peter Whiteaker, Managing Director of Deeter Group comments; ”More than 15 years experience of manufacturing sensors has clearly demonstrated that no matter how many standard products we design, customers will frequently want something different “. Our ability to draw on our vast experience allows us to design and deliver custom sensors very quickly with low engineering and tooling costs and in quantities that meet our customers’ needs.”

This depth of experience means that in most cases a totally new custom design can be created in 2-3 weeks with the only design costs the customer has to bear being that of the assembly drawing – costing in the region of £30.00 – and with no large minimum order conditions.  All mechanical parts, circuit design and PCB design is done in-house helping to ensure the quality and reliability The Deeter Group is known for.

Deeter custom sensors offer a wide range of float designs for different liquids with different specific gravities and probe materials including corrosion free food grade 316L stainless steel, PVC and polypropylene for water and acid monitoring systems. Sensing may be via reed relays or hall-effect diodes and sensor length, control head and output cable may all be customer specified.

To accompany their custom continuous sensors Deeter has a bespoke digital display unit designed for simple panel mounting which can accommodate an appropriate LED bar-graph display and legend.

Examples of custom sensor systems from Deeter include simple water level sensors, float level switches, fuel level sensor or level indicators for almost any fluid.  Installations include; agricultural vehicles, tractors and lawnmowers; rainwater harvesting; header tanks; bilge, water and fuel tanks on boats; road paving machines; nuclear submarines; breweries; aircraft fuel tanks and many more.

Deeter Group Introduces a Complete Wireless Sensor System for Industrial Measuring and Control

Wireless Base Station with 4-to-20mA Current Loop output

Rugged Battery Powered Wireless Level Sensor

2.4 GHz Frequency band High Power Radio Transceiver

Simple and reliable operation

UK Designed and manufactured

The Deeter Group, market leaders in the design, development and manufacture of electronic sensors and control systems, announces the launch of its ground breaking Wireless Sensor System for industrial measurement and control.

At the centre of the Deeter Wireless Sensor System is the simple-to-use Base Station designed to receive data from remote wireless devices such as the Deeter Liquid Vertical Sensor (LVCS-RF) or Wireless Sender. The base station converts remote sensor input signals into industry standard process outputs and acts as the coordinator for an IEEE 802.15.4 wireless sensor network. It operates on one of 16 radio frequency channels available in the 2.4GHz ISM band. The high power transceiver can achieve a range of greater than 1km, subject to local environmental factors. The internationally recognised IEEE 802.15.4 protocol allows several wireless sensor networks to share the same wireless spectrum without interference.

The Base Station provides four open-collector transistor outputs which may be used to drive external relays for pumps and alarms or Deeter’s Dual Level Controller. Continuous analogue sensor data such as liquid level is output using a 4-to-20mA current-loop driver which enables interfacing with industrial process controllers or the Deeter Group’s range of Current Loop Indicators. A serial communications channel provides full-duplex RS232 and half-duplex RS485 transceivers allowing software to be developed for linking to PCs, data-loggers, PLCs or other proprietary equipment.

Deeter is launching the wireless Base Station with the Liquid Vertical Continuous Sensor – Radio Frequency (LVCS-RF) wireless sensor. The LVCS-RF is designed to measure a continuous liquid level and transmit this information by radio to a Deeter Wireless Base Station at regular intervals.

The sensor circuit is fitted inside a Food Industry Standard 316L stainless steel stem attached to the head, with a 55mm magnetic stainless steel ball-float. Standard sensing lengths are 250mm, 500mm, 750mm and 1m. Custom lengths are available on request. The LVCS-RF is powered by a single 3.6V Lithium Thionyl Chloride battery with a life typically of 12 months, has a transmission range up to 1Km in ideal line-of-sight conditions, subject to local environmental factors, and an operating temperature range of -20 to +70ºC.

Deeter Electronics also offer a Multi-Channel Wireless Sensor System for more complex installations. This highly cost effective wireless monitoring solution will meet the needs of a large number of smaller industrial monitoring applications. The Multi-Channel system can display the state of up to eight analogue sensors and up to thirty two switched inputs.

Up to eight sensor nodes, which can be multi-input Deeter Wireless Senders or Deeter Wireless LVCS-RF Liquid Vertical Continuous Sensors, can send information to a Deeter multi-channel base station. Sensor outputs are displayed, for monitoring, on a personal computer connected via an RS485 to USB adaptor using Deeter Data Viewer Software.

To increase transmission range and overcome potential interference problems Deeter Electronics provide a Wireless Router and an external antenna kit. Up to four wireless routers may be incorporated into a monitoring system to provide a self-healing wireless mesh network offering maximum signal reliability.

The Deeter Group product range includes level sensors, industrial weighing equipment, reed and proximity switches, security switches, termination assemblies, litz and magnetic wire and solar power systems. The Leak Detector can detect and warn of system faults such as a break in any of the three Leak Sensor wires, no termination of the Leak Sensor wires and a blown output fuse. Status of the system is indicated by three LEDs, green indicates all clear, yellow indicates a fault has been detected and red that a leak has been detected.

The leak detector features an open collector transistor output, open during normal operation and current-limited to sink up to 50mA which can be pulled up to 40V. The Leak Detector Controller also includes two output relays. Relay 1 is always assigned to leak detection and can be programmed to follow or latch in response to a leak. If there is a system fault relay 2 and / or the transistor output can be used to indicate the fault. The relays have a current rating of 6A at 240VAC. In addition to indicating a leak the relays may also be configured to raise an alarm or shut down critical equipment in the event of a system failure.

The Leak Sensors supplied with the system are housed in IP65 ABS boxes with a pair of sensing probes protruding through the underside to detect water. The probes are stainless steel and M3 threaded, and may be extended using an M3 spacer. The Sensors can be bolted to the floor if required. Up to ten or more Leak Sensors can be linked using a 3-wire cable in a daisy-chain configuration.

Peter Whiteaker, Managing Director of Deeter Electronics, comments; ”Deeter Electronics has a long history of designing and manufacturing sensors of all kinds and our new Leak Detector Sensor system has been developed in response to customer requests. It is estimated that there are more than 20,000 computer rooms in the UK alone. Flooding or any influx of water can cause serious damage to computer systems, industrial plant equipment and even paper archives etc. which are frequently stored in basements. Our new Leak Detector system provides a cost effective and simple to install way to protect valuable infrastructure from water damage.”

Press Release

New Multi-channel Wireless Sensor System for Industrial Monitoring from Deeter Electronics

Up to eight analogue sensors and up to thirty two switched inputs

2.4 GHz Frequency band High Power Radio Transceiver

Simple and reliable operation

August 2010 – Deeter Electronics announce the latest addition to their ground breaking Wireless Sensor System for industrial measurement and control. The market leading international company, specialists in the design, development and manufacture of electronic sensors and control systems, has introduced a new multi-channel Wireless Sensor System for more complex installations. The new system permits the monitoring of greater numbers of remote devices than was previously possible and can display the state of up to eight analogue sensors and up to thirty two switched inputs.

The Deeter Multi-channel Wireless Sensor System is connected from the Base Station to a personal computer by an RS485 to USB adaptor. On the host computer Deeter Data Viewer Software displays the outputs of up to eight analogue inputs and up to thirty two switched inputs from as many as eight sensor nodes which can be multi-input Deeter Wireless Senders or Deeter Wireless LVCS-RF Liquid Vertical Continuous Sensors.

The Deeter Data Viewer application runs under Windows™ and provides a means of viewing the outputs from multiple sensor nodes by interpreting the data stream from the Base Station’s serial communications port. The Data Viewer visualises the performance of the Base Station and it is the best way to utilise all the features of the Deeter Wireless Sensor System. It permits the user to view the inputs from multiple sensor nodes (Deeter Wireless Senders or LVCS-RF), change the settings in the Base Station and network, record the sensor data-stream, monitor and record network events and monitor remote sensor battery voltages.

Up to eight Deeter Wireless Senders can be used per Multi-Channel Base Station, each take the input from either a resistive potentiometric sensor or a 4-20mA device, and up to four switched inputs. This gives a total of up to eight analogue inputs and up to thirty two switched inputs. Deeter LVCS-RF (Liquid Vertical Continuous Sensors RF) can also be used as sensor nodes. Up to eight LVCS-RF sensors can be used per Multi-channel Wireless Base Station. A combination of Senders and LVCS-RF can be used up to the maximum of eight sensor nodes.

The simple-to-use Deeter Base Station receives the data from remote wireless devices and acts as the coordinator for an IEEE 802.15.4 wireless sensor network.

To increase the range of the Deeter Wireless Sensor System or overcome adverse environmental conditions one or a number of Deeter Routers may be added to the wireless network. The use of multiple Deeter Routers creates a highly reliable self-healing wireless mesh network.

Peter Whiteaker, Managing Director of Deeter Electronics, comments;”The launch of our Wireless Sensor System has been met with great interest. It provides a highly cost effective wireless monitoring solution for a large number of smaller industrial and agricultural applications. We have now received a number of customer requests for a greater number of input channels and we are very pleased to introduce our new multi-channel system. As we design and manufacture our products in the UK we are able to offer a rapid response to our customer’s requirements.”

Deeter Wireless Sensor Network products are housed in rugged ABS enclosures with external antennas. Cable glands are provided for power input and signal outputs and they come complete with external, wall mounted, universal AC input power supplies.
