Press Release

New Multi-channel Wireless Sensor System for Industrial Monitoring from Deeter Electronics

Up to eight analogue sensors and up to thirty two switched inputs

2.4 GHz Frequency band High Power Radio Transceiver

Simple and reliable operation

August 2010 – Deeter Electronics announce the latest addition to their ground breaking Wireless Sensor System for industrial measurement and control. The market leading international company, specialists in the design, development and manufacture of electronic sensors and control systems, has introduced a new multi-channel Wireless Sensor System for more complex installations. The new system permits the monitoring of greater numbers of remote devices than was previously possible and can display the state of up to eight analogue sensors and up to thirty two switched inputs.

The Deeter Multi-channel Wireless Sensor System is connected from the Base Station to a personal computer by an RS485 to USB adaptor. On the host computer Deeter Data Viewer Software displays the outputs of up to eight analogue inputs and up to thirty two switched inputs from as many as eight sensor nodes which can be multi-input Deeter Wireless Senders or Deeter Wireless LVCS-RF Liquid Vertical Continuous Sensors.

The Deeter Data Viewer application runs under Windows™ and provides a means of viewing the outputs from multiple sensor nodes by interpreting the data stream from the Base Station’s serial communications port. The Data Viewer visualises the performance of the Base Station and it is the best way to utilise all the features of the Deeter Wireless Sensor System. It permits the user to view the inputs from multiple sensor nodes (Deeter Wireless Senders or LVCS-RF), change the settings in the Base Station and network, record the sensor data-stream, monitor and record network events and monitor remote sensor battery voltages.

Up to eight Deeter Wireless Senders can be used per Multi-Channel Base Station, each take the input from either a resistive potentiometric sensor or a 4-20mA device, and up to four switched inputs. This gives a total of up to eight analogue inputs and up to thirty two switched inputs. Deeter LVCS-RF (Liquid Vertical Continuous Sensors RF) can also be used as sensor nodes. Up to eight LVCS-RF sensors can be used per Multi-channel Wireless Base Station. A combination of Senders and LVCS-RF can be used up to the maximum of eight sensor nodes.

The simple-to-use Deeter Base Station receives the data from remote wireless devices and acts as the coordinator for an IEEE 802.15.4 wireless sensor network. It operates on one of 16 radio frequency channels available in the 2.4GHz ISM band. The high power transceiver can achieve a range of greater than 1km, subject to local environmental factors. The internationally recognised IEEE 802.15.4 protocol allows several wireless sensor networks to share the same wireless spectrum without interference.

To increase the range of the Deeter Wireless Sensor System or overcome adverse environmental conditions one or a number of Deeter Routers may be added to the wireless network. The use of multiple Deeter Routers creates a highly reliable self-healing wireless mesh network.

Peter Whiteaker, Managing Director of Deeter Electronics, comments;”The launch of our Wireless Sensor System has been met with great interest. It provides a highly cost effective wireless monitoring solution for a large number of smaller industrial and agricultural applications. We have now received a number of customer requests for a greater number of input channels and we are very pleased to introduce our new multi-channel system. As we design and manufacture our products in the UK we are able to offer a rapid response to our customer’s requirements.”

Deeter Wireless Sensor Network products are housed in rugged ABS enclosures with external antennas. Cable glands are provided for power input and signal outputs and they come complete with external, wall mounted, universal AC input power supplies.

The Deeter Electronics product range includes level sensors, industrial weighing equipment, reed and proximity switches, security switches, termination assemblies, litz and magnetic wire and solar power systems. Press Release

Deeter Electronics adds “Router” to Extend Range of Industrial Wireless Sensor System

Enables high reliability wireless mesh operation

2.4 GHz Frequency band High Power Radio Transceiver

July 2010Deeter Electronics, a market leading international company in the design, development and manufacture of electronic sensors and control systems, announces the introduction of a Wireless Router to increase the range and reliability of their recently launched Deeter Wireless Sensor System for industrial measurement and control.

The new Wireless Router may be added to a Deeter Wireless Sensor System to significantly increase the range of the wireless communication between sensors and a Base Station. Deeter Wireless Routers may also be used to improve communications reliability.

A basic Deeter Wireless Sensor System is comprised of a Base Station and a remote sensor node, either a general purpose Deeter Sender or self contained Liquid Vertical Continuous Sensor (LVCS-RF) probe. The maximum range between these, in ideal conditions, can exceed 1Km. However in many industrial environments the signal will be attenuated by obstructions and fading may result from multiple signal paths caused by reflections. These effects reduce the quality of the communications link and the achievable range. Adding a Deeter Wireless Router to the system extends the effective range and improves signal quality.

In use the Wireless Router should be positioned midway between the remote probe or sender and Base Station, possibly offset in order to avoid obstructions that might cause interference. Up to four Routers may be used in a single system with data being retransmitted a number of times before reaching the Base Station. This will greatly extend the transmission range and reliability.

The use of multiple Routers allows the wireless network to automatically establish the most effective signal route between probe and Base Station at turn-on. Should this signal path become interrupted for any reason the Router network will re-establish the most efficient and reliable signal path. In this mode the Routers are operating as a self-healing wireless mesh network offering maximum signal reliability.

The Deeter Wireless Router must be permanently powered-up to relay messages. Any message sent from a base station to a “sleeping” battery powered remote node or sensor will wait at the last Router until the sensor wakes up and polls for data.

The Deeter Wireless Sensor system uses the internationally recognised IEEE 802.15.4 protocol in the 2.4GHz ISM radio band allowing users to install approved devices with no licensing requirements. It operates on one of 16 radio frequency channels available allowing several wireless sensor networks to share the same wireless spectrum without interference.

The Deeter Wireless Router is housed in an ABS enclosure with an external antenna. Power is provided by an external 5VDC mains wall mounted adapter connected via cable glands. An optional 3m extension lead and bracket are available for mounting the antenna in a position more favourable to wireless communication should the need arise.

Peter Whiteaker, Managing Director of Deeter Electronics, comments; ”Our new Wireless Router is the final piece in our class leading wireless sensor system. Adding one or a number of Routers to a measurement system not only extends the communications range but can greatly improve the reliability of the transmitted data signal. We can now offer our customers a complete, simple to operate, low cost wireless sensor system which provides a very viable alternative to conventional control and instrumentation systems.”

The Deeter Group product range includes level sensors, industrial weighing equipment, reed and proximity switches, security switches, termination assemblies, litz and magnetic wire and solar power systems.
